A further update on Saigon
Update on Saigon
This is a more private update on Saigon in response to a question from Emem.
In Vietnam the medium size hotels are government controlled and the big chain hotels are usually run by consortiums with gov't participation. They frown on casual female visitation although I heard the Riverside Renaissance was asking you to pay for an extra room.
Now at Riverside, New World and Caravelle there are connecting corridors etc from nightclub areas to room elevators. But I have never had confirmation that ladies can be taken this way. The WG in these places tend to be expensive bitches with a million rules (don,t mess up my hair, don't cum there etc etc) so I avoid them.
As a result a lot of small short time hotels are around but if a bar girl takes you to one of her choosing it can be a bit dodgy.
I use several smaller hotels near the centre on Mac Thi Boui - typically 30 rooms at around $30 with breakfast and broadband. They might be a bit run down but they are clean and friendly. Let me know closer to your trip and I will hook you up if you want.
Another option is to stay in a big hotel and book a mongering room (say $20 for a windowless room) at one of these small hotels. This keeps you in control.
The bar scene has changed a little in Saigon.
The Smileys bar next to the La Camargue restaurant has the girls in a new braless uniform - but the mama is greedy and wants you to buy 7 LD as a barfine.
The infamous U2 bar has moved to new salubrious premises at 29 Dong Khoi and is getting some very nice new staff to work alongside and learn from the nasty old timers.
I still go back to the Saigon Bar on Dong Du just for reliability because I have known the mamasan for a while.
A bar called Ba-Ba has opened it what was a KTV location on Thai Van Lung. Supposedly a �respectable� bar with very nice ladies but I have had offers and I know one girl who quit because she did not like what she was expected to do.
There are also a myriad of freelance and freeby possibilities. One of the more productive activities is to take coffee around Dong Khoi around 9-10 am and have a chat to the SYT�s going to work at the fancy shops. Some nice encounters can be had. Same with hairdressers who double up as massage ladies. But you need an open mind so that the sob story goes in one ear and out the other.

Vietnam
The first thing to know about Vietnam is that all of the big hotels are state-owned or state-controlled in some way. This means that you are prevented from bringing guests after about 9.00pm.
Some of the hotels allow you to book (and pay for) a separate room for the guest and in some of them you might smuggle someone in if you have the geography sorted. For instance you might have dinner in an upper floor restaurant and go straight to the guest elevators.
However there are a myriad of small hotels for less than US$20 that will welcome you both and probably supply an industrial strength condom as a bonus.
My preference is for small hotels in the $25-30 range (internet and breakfast included) that will accept guests. They don't have swimming pools, gyms and fancy restaurants but they do give very good and personalized service.
In Saigon the most obvious place to find company is in the bars around Hai Bai Trung and the side streets. These are BmD bars but ten times as aggressive as in Singapore. Typical prices US$40 for ST and $60 for LT. Buyer beware.
There are also ladies walking the streets - sometimes innocently and sometimes with intent. Also ladies on motorbikes. 2 x buyer beware.
Higher class company can be found in the fancy bars and KTV's associated with the big hotels such as Caravelle, Sheraton, New World and Renaissance. High priced and mostly primma donnas.
There are also discos such as Acopolypse, Gossip and others in Saigon.
In Hanoi the pickings are a bit harder - New Century disco is said the be the place but I was not impressed with what I saw there.
If you speak the language a bit in both Hanoi and Saigon there are Hot Tocs (barbershops) and Bia Oms where action can be had. A Bia Om is like a low grade KTV where the girls are paid to drink your beer until there is no money left. They do a good job of it too.
The massage scene is pretty straight - they make you wear their baggy shorts so that there can be no action.
The underlying thing is that the Vietnamese people are very friendly so you have to remember that a pimp is a crook wherever you go.

Sad loss

I have to report the sad loss of one of my regulars in Saigon.
Gal by the name of Dung (pronounced Yoong) who I have been doing since early last year when I found her crying outside of her 'regular' bar on Le Than Ton that was just about to shut down. I would call her and she would get a cab and come over straight away and stay till morning - usual damage was VND500k maybe 700k.
So last night a few other birds slipped through the net and I call about 9.30pm and tell her to come to hotel at 10. She asks for VND1mil because she is broke and I agree. Inflation is rampant here anyway.
So while I am waiting I have a couple of whiskies at the blue ice bar and get Houng's number for future reference. When I leave I check my wallet and I have a 500k note and others for about 1.3 mil.
So Dung arrives and we do our thing. I do not bother to hide my wallet as I would with a new gal. In the morning the 500k is missing and there is only one explanation.
I tell her the 500k is missing but don't confront her. Gave her 600k and kissed her goodbye. I am quite convinced she took it so that's that.
Will keep the number in the computer if anyone wants - but is gone from the phone.
She is tiny - less than 5 ft - and has big tits for such a little girl. Very very tight but takes it like a trooper.

Guys just another note visited this bar again on Saturday night with a mate. They now have pool tables upstairs and private rooms.
We ended playing pool against two girls who were very good (in more ways then one)... the rules being if the girls won (we were playing doubles) they got 10 US tip for each game one. If the guys won then they would do a striptease for us.
With those odds on the tables we won 4 games straight amazing how good your game can be when given an incentive.. the girls were absolutely top value and to be honest they took 3 of the 4 games to the wire e.g both teams on the black.
A great night of light hearted entertainment (neither me or my mate were interested in taking the girls out of the bar).. another note here is that the bar owner only hires girls under 23 and they are only allowed to stay after 23 if they are top earners e.g. stunner's.

Guys visited a new bar last night on Hai Ba Trung (one of the main streets in Saigon) just down from the Park Hyatt and close to Pomodoro which is a pretty popular Italian restaurant. Had just finished dinner and was walking down the street when in true Duxton fashion 5 or 6 female heads popped out of a door and said hey you come inside just one drink... A challenge that cannot be passed by. This is the BmD bar from heaven.. The girls are all dressed in short skirts with their mid rift exposed and if any of the girls were over 21/22 I would give you my left nut. 90% of the girls would have been at least a 7/10 with some real lookers in the bar. The lady drinks were 3 dollars US and there was a 400,000 dong bar fine to take the girls out. The girls than expected about 600-700k dong for extra curricular activities outside of the bar.
Just to sum it up take all of HW's comments on a good BmD bar and wrap them into one and you have this bar.. Definite visit guys if your in town. I haven't even gotten into the private rooms upstairs.... ;)

Ok guys now once again I took notice of posts from Sudsoz and decided to explore further tonight.. so headed to The New World Hotel which has a bar attached to it called Catwalks. Now this is pretty much a BmD bar but guys let me just say the quality is literally out of this world.. well lets just say its up there. The place has a pretty good band and a largish floor with the girls all sitting at the back. There is a windowed off sofa area to the side and karaoke rooms at the back which come free if you purchase a bottle of spirits. If you want a girl you just signal to one of the hostesses who will call the girls over for you to choose from. The ladies will sit with you for $13 USD an hour (if you want to buy them drinks its up to you but the drinks are at standard prices). There is an expected tip of $20 USD to the girl at the end of the night regardless of whether she spent 5 hours or one hour with you. After 11pm you can take the girl from the club the going price (which is negotiable with the girls) is about $80 USD if you are staying at a hotel this will probably be for a short time encounter but at a private residence will most likely be all night. Was there with an experienced campaigner who passed all the info on to me..
Emem this place is for you when you visit Vietnam next year!

JZ - your take on the Saigon Saigon bar at the top of the Carravelle is spot on. A high class haunt catering to westerners and monied locals with WL looking for the prices you expect in that environment. Similar place on top floor of Sheraton.
I have found that these higher class higher price girls can be less enthusiastic than the regular girls - don't mess my hair don't mess my makeup etc etc.
There is also a very smart bar opposite the Caravelle in the basement of The Opera. Now this is where you can find real local girls looking for some fun - but watch out for boy friends.
Your Indian friend would probably appreciate the Malaysian style street stall restaurant opposite the Sheraton. There is another one in behind the mosque but they don't serve booze there.
The most popular Indian restaurant in town is on Mac Thi Boui upstairs and opposite the Indian money changers. Sometimes hard to get a table and service can be slow but food is good.

Ok guys Friday night was upon me and I decided to see what I could find in the ways of entertainment in Saigon. Finished up at work at about 6pm and dropped past the company house to get changed and freshen up. One of the guys that I am working with is Indian and seeing as he had been eating "western" all week working amongst x-pats I felt obligated to see if I could sniff out some decent Indian food for him. A quick telephone call to one of the local guys who works with us and we were off to Tandor's Indian Restaurant near the Caravelle Hotel in central Saigon. The upside of my effort was that the meal was fantastic and must admit it was quality Indian food.
Dinner finished up and my Indian mate was already yawning so I popped him into a taxi and sent him back home. Now knowing that I wasn't hampered by staying in a hotel with inhibiting rules on guests after 11pm I thought I would take a quick walk around the area that I was in. The Caravelle Hotel was across the road and I had vaguely remembered Sudsoz mentioning this in one of his detailed posts on the Saigon nightlife so thought f*ck it why not and headed over. A quick inspection of the hotel lobby unearthed the Saigon Saigon Bar on the roof top (level 9). Grabbed the lift and headed up.
As you walk into the bar you have a stage to your left (with a live band more on that later) lots of couches and tables directly in front of the stage and a large round bar at the back end of the room directly in front of the entrance. Out to the left just pass the stage is an exit to a beer garden type area that overlooks Saigon (great view shame I didn't have a camera).
The Bar was absolutely heaving with nearly all the chairs and tables taken. The crowd was fairly "posh" with westerners being very prominent. I didn't see much in the way of talent but decided that I might as well have a drink and listen to the band for a bit. Now by the time I got to the bar it was about 10pm which was around when the band came on. Now as far as Vietnamese bands go these guys are far and away the best I have heard. The two girls who lead the singing have great voices and just quietly are very very sexy. One of them has a real slutty look to her and she damn knew how to get her body moving. I was pretty happy to sink some bourbons and listen to the band which I did do for a couple of hours.. About 11:00ish I started to look around the bar and low and behold there was some definite "rental" factor moving into the bar. There was 3 or 4 groups of girls by the bar and in the beer garden who were gazing around with that look that we all know :)
Now this is my take on the rental action at this bar call it "gut feel" as I did not proposition any of the girls. It’s the "Brix" of Saigon e.g. higher class and better looking girls than general but you know what they say you get what you pay for. So if you’re willing to pay Singapore prices this may just be the bar for you as the girls that were about were definitely worth having a crack at.
All in all though I was pretty happy with this bar it had a good laid back feel to it and was definitely the type of place I would start the night off at.. On that sentiment however I felt that I needed to head to more fertile ground so headed over to Apocalypse Now for the rest of the night.

My field report from Hanoi and Haiphong
I have been working in Vietnam for almost a year now. Here is some of my experience regarding location and price. Please understand that this report and suggestion are based from my own experience. Some people who may disagree with me, you are welcome to give your comment.
Hanoi - The capital City of Vietnam. Less develop than Saigon, but it is where the central government is located. There is many hotel that offer massages and Karaoke. There is also Night Clubs and Disco places in the central City of Hanoi. This is the place where to start.
For Karaoke, go to Lakeside Hotel. They have the best collection of Karaoke Girls in town. You may also book the girl after the place close (around midnight) the cost is usually start at US$100 for all night and US$50 for short time. For all night the girls usually will let you have maximum 3 sessions (4 if they really like you). The time is from midnight to 7 in the morning. You don't need to tip the girls, the payment you made to the mama-san in the karaoke place is all-in price. The girls usually gives better service, but many are inexperienced and may not willing to do the things you wanted them to do.
For Massage, I don't really recommend them because usually the massage is bad and the girls only offers hand-job. For foreigner, the girls will ask for high tip, and it just not worth to try. Better ask for regular massage if you really need them.
For nightclubs, the best one I think is "New Century". If you go to the second floor, the girls are on the right side of the bar, if you are facing the dancing area. Please avoid the aggressive girl, because usually they are well experience and may cheat on you. You have to look for the shy girl or the quite ones. They mostly don't talk English, but if you can find a girl who can speak English, you may ask her to get you the girl that you like. Off course you must tip this "translator" or buy her drink. For the tip, US$10 is more than enough. If you have local currency, you may give 50,000VND or about US$3. Regarding the price its negotiable. The girls usually ask for US$100 but you can usually get them for US$50 for short time. For all night usually will depend on the girls, if they like you they may willing to stay longer, or they will try to finish as soon as possible, so the service is not guaranteed. Sometimes, if you're lucky you can get very good service, better get her phone number for future encounter.

Hai Phong - It is a modern port city located about an hour from Hanoi by car. There is a local tourist area in Hai Phong called "Doson". In Doson, there is a famous Red District Area (like Geylang in Singapore). Please ask your local guide or your local business partner for the direction.
In Doson brothel area, one hour with a girl will cost you 100,000VND or about Sin $10. If you are a regular/local the price will go down to 80,000VND/hour/girl or about Sin $8. The price include the room price too. First you must find the house you like, go in and wait for the gilr to come by. Some houses have in-house girls, but if you don't like them, many will pass the house by bicycles or motorcycles. The owner of the house also will call girls from different house to come to your house. Just take your time to select the girls, there are hundreds of them to select and if you want you can get 2 or 3 girls to come with you at the same time. Just multiply the cost.
The girls in Doson changed every 3 months. Some may stay for a couple of years but its very rare. The new girls will be timid and shy sometimes they may want to stop early if they hurt, the old girls will be heavily damaged and used. If you select properly, you can get girls with enough experience but still fresh enough. So please ask the owner of the house regarding the type of girl you desires. If you decided to go to this area you should know that the people in his area are usually only speak Vietnamese and Chinese (mandarin). So please bring someone who can be a translator for you.

Apocalypse is populated by a strange mix of of professional FL ladies looking for business to local business ladies looking for a little side action to local girls out for some dancing and clean fun. You need to be sure that you are talking to a FL because the local gals can have some tough boyfriends.
Beers (Tiger, Heineken) at VND80,000 (S$8) is not so cheap by Saigon standards - most of the Hai Bai Trung bars will charge you 50,000 and 100,000 for a LD. Cheaper at happy hour.
Take-out at VND1 mill (S$100) is a pretty fair price for LT in Saigon but most will have an asking price higher than that. Isn't it interesting that the same gal in Ipanema wants at least twice that.
JZ - the area near AN (Thi Sach and Dong Du) has a couple of small hotels that might suit your needs as they have cheap rooms for US$20 -30 and the only luggage that they will expect you to have is in high heels. Much better to have your own arranged than go to a mini-hotel with the gal. There are are stories of secret entrances etc in the mini hotels.
If you are in SGN with business folk from the Sofitel try the higher class ladies at Catwalk Club at New World hotel. Similar deal at Riverside Renaissance called Club Royale. Poker machines, bars and Karoake. You don't need to use a Karoake room to get attention form the ladies as the mamasan leads them on a constant tour all night long.
If you walk down Thi Sach away from the river (right as you come out of AN) you will find:
* a mens hairdressing salon where they have lots of SYT to give you facial and body massage (but no hanky panky). Private outside assignments can be arranged.
* On the corner of the second side street you will find La Camague - high quality french restaurant with a lively bar downstairs. This is where I take local gals to make an impression.
* A few doors up from La Camague is Smileys. Smileys is a Bida (Billiard) bar with BmD ladies for takeout. Uniform is short skirts and tight tops but NO BRAS. Starting price is VND 1.2 mil pus some LD but the quality is good.
If you go down Dong Du (runs off Thi Sach near AN) there are lots of bars and restaurants. Red Hot Chile bar has nice ladies in Aoi Dai and Bar Saigon (opposite) has takeout ladies in Aoi Dai and nice long dresses.

Being is Saigon at the moment I thought it would be unwise of me not to go to the most famous pick up joint in town.
I am staying at the Sofitel and surrounded by work colleagues so my fun was somewhat dampened however I thought I would post a quick report on this place for any venturing this way.
When you get dropped off by the taxi (and every taxi driver knows this place) you will notice straight away the camouflage netting that is hung on the front wall and around the entrance automatically giving it that army feel. Walking in you find your in the middle of a longish room (left to right of the entrance) with a beer garden exit directly in front of you. The Beer Garden is pretty cool with a hot dog stand near the main entrance (and the hot dogs are worth having). They have a little kitchen that does snacks if you haven't had any stomach lining.
Back to the main room and you have 2 bars one at either end of the room and a dance floor to the right. As far as I can tell there is no live music here but rather just a pretty good DJ that places a decent mix of music from current pop to techno to RnB. The Beers are bloody cheap was knocking back Corona's for about 80,000 dong (not sure what that works out to id say about 6 or 7 sing).
Now as far as the girls all I can say is this is your Ipanema/Beach Club of Saigon (in fact I ran into a number of girls from Ipanema when there was pretty funny seeing the shock on their faces when they realized I was on their home turf). I didn't take anyone but the girls that I knew were asking for about 1 million dong. Don't know if that is a good price or not in Vietnam.. its about 90-100 sing so its a good price in my book!!
Will keep you guys informed on what I get up to as I took a few numbers for future use.. am looking for a house/apartment on Monday so the adventures should improve!!!

Johnzag - The Sofitel Saigon is a typical bloody Sofitel - once you are inside their doors you are captive to their high prices etc. And you cannot walk to the best restaurants and other action.
Take a walk around Mac Thi Boui Street - all the hotels there are GF with the exception of Palace, Bach Dang and Hong Suen (spelling). There are other small hotels on Thi Sach Street and nearby on Dong Do.
I left Saigon yesterday - back in about 3 weeks.

Just checked into the Sofitel Plaza staying here for a week or so until I can find a place a little more friendly (girl friendly that is) for the long term we have just started a project here so will be spending a lot of time in Saigon in the next 2-3 months.

I have been to Catwalk a couple of times and usually went to the KTV area upstairs. Club Royale at Renaissance is similar deal.
The babes certainly look good but my experience is that they ask for circa $150 and are slow to come down. I recall one that would not budge under $100 until I was walking down the stairs to leave. The other part of my experience with these gals is that they are often primma donnas with a million rules and they don't want you to mess up makeup etc etc.
My experience with these girls is one reason why I am reluctant to bother going to BRIX in Sing.
Now I have recently discovered a new bar with no distinct name on Ton That Hiep behind the Sunwah Tower. About a dozen babes with different uniforms on different nights. Last night was a white singlet dress that was short at both ends Plenty of T and A on display as they went about their duties. Not a takeout bar as such but I am sure a man could manage something over time. As the night went on the tall one I was plying with Tequila got very playful.
Right now my hairdressing lady has got the shits with me because one of her friends saw me with some other woman. Won't even tell me where or when so I can create a good excuse. ________________________________________
