Hey guys. I just got back from week in Jakarta.
It was the saddest moment of my life when I found out that the company had put me up at the Shangri LA hotel.. (NOT!!!) I duly jumped for joy,, and decided to pack 2 dozen condoms..

Yo, been to batam last weekend and here's a bit of my experience to share . Visited the pacific disco opposite novotel hotel in Nagoya town around 12am, they made me pay 50k for entry which inc a beer. Inside was spacey and consist of 3 floor and was extremely dark. Wandering around in the pub at first, 3rd floor lead to a KTV which was a light area, the OKT approach me and intro few girls to me, the girls were not so good quality (maybe because can observe the girls clearly). Went back to first floor which was a large dancing pool, many girls there but as mentioned, it was too dark to pick a nice one. Get the beer and sit at the bar table (lighter area) to wait for some action. I have gotten some requests for the contact details of my guide in Tanjung Balai Karimun.
Firstly, I would like to state that I do not stand to gain anything, aside from recommending to fellow mongerers a reliable, honest and trustworthy guide, useful for first-timers. After all, this place can be a "cowboy town" particularly for those who have limited mongering exposure.

Kofa will not request for any payments, but its expected / you should tip him at the end of the trip. Tips should be in the region of IDR50,000 to IDR100,000, which works out to between SGD8.00 to SGD16.00, damn cheap for his efforts & your own convenience & safety.
So how does he earn a living ? Like most independent drivers, he gets a "cut" from the brothel owners / hotels that his customer(s) utlises. That works out to be relatively very little, given the amount of work that he does (see below paragraph for "the extent of services rendered by Kofa"). He will also join you for meals, drinks, karaoke, etc, if he's invited (he is typically invited, especially with regular customers) and available.
His services includes:
- picking you up from / sending you to the ferry terminal,
- arranging your hotel accommodation / bringing you to view various suitable hotel accommodation, depending on your budget / expectations,
- negotiates a discount for you, from the hotels,
- bringing you to select and negotiate the price of your companion,
- bringing you for meals, drinks, karaoke.
- arranging for massage,
- driving you around for ad-hoc requests (i.e. buy provisions for the trip, etc), and
- dealing with any issues that you encounter during the trip (i.e. not happy with the treatment received from companion, companion stealing from you -highly unlikely, if you are Kofa's customer, etc)
Of all the "guides" available at Balai, my opinion is that he is very trust worthy and will even advice you on whether its safe to venture to certain places or not. Other guides, you have to take their word with a pinch of salt, and be on your guard. Till today, many "old-timers" still use him. Even my regular girl tells me that he is good.
Mention my name (Bobo74) and you can be assured that he will take good care of you.
Lastly, please note the following:
1) If you are into "younger companions" (i.e. girls below 18 ), Kofa does not arrange / is not involved in such activities. Anyways, I think most of us would agree that any person involved / interested in such activities should be flogged to death. The "younger companions" will definitely claim that they are "21 and above" (the legal age requirement in Indonesia) although you would notice that some look between the ages of 18 to 21. For me, growing up in Australia, the acceptable legal age of women is 18 and in this regard, it has influenced my moral standing that any girl below that 18 is a "no-no" for me. Above 18, its fair game. For instance, I am turning 32 this year, and my regular girl will be turning 22 in December - acceptable for me.
2) I wish to reiterate that most companions available at Tanjung Balai Karimun are at best, victims of economic circumstances, rather than being duped / forced into this industry. I admit that some real victims do exist, but is rare and so far, I have not seen or heard from reliable sources of such cases, during my trips there. In fact, most girls there have the right to choose / decide on their companions for the night, and do complain if they suffer any physical abuse during their outings with customers - If this occurs, you will be at the mercy of the brothel owners (Kofa won't be able to help you either), and will be penalized ("monetarily" at the very least or "physical harm" to oneself, if the abuse suffered by the girls is major).
3) Treat your companion with respect and kindness and they will reciprocate (in most instances anyway). At the end of the services being rendered, depending on the level of satisfaction you have received, do give them a small tip (minimum IDR50,000 above) as they do have to pay for their own transport to and back from the hotel (IDR10,000 per trip).

This was in a write-up in the Straits Times couple of weeks back. I know its not easy to verify age and marital status.
This is just information to create awareness amongst us in case we happen to be in Indonesia and think everything is fine so long as gal is 18 yrs.

As I travel to Indonesia on a weekly basis I'll fill you in on what most bulehs or ang mo's don't know about Jakarta. OK.
Now if you stay in the usual 4 star hotel and not venture anywhere outside clubs with expats then go to BATS at the Shangri-La or Tiga Puluh Bar (30 Bar) at Le Meridien Mulia is not bad either but in whichever case you're in for the usual: "Hello Mister you are handsome bullshit"...if on the other hand you really want to find the world being your oyster then venture to these places:
Classic Hotel: Central Jakarta: tell any taxi driver and he knows...the hotel is equipped hotel service, wireless for email junkies, disco (stripteases at different times) and a spa. You can opt for the spa and after paying about SGD20:- you have your spa service. Finished with that you ask the reception ladies for the bar they will direct you (best to go around 2pm onwards) to a bar with at least 150 ladies- basically a full Ipanema and maybe just 5 guys. Here you have drinks and relax while the ladies sit around. Ladies from Colombia, Mexico, Russia, Ukraine, Vietnam, china, Thailand...and trust me forget OT this is heaven!!! You can talk to any of the girls and when you have decided to ask her to call mamasan (mami) and they take you a rooms in the basement that are decorated like dungeon rooms out of some De Sade story. SGD180:- gets you close to 2 hours with the lady...room is nice, clean, dimming lights and a nice transparent glass shower box.

Just be cool and polite and they will like you (they actually find it interesting and bizarre that as a non-local you are able to find these places)
After my fair share of indo women I have come to the realization that many are only speculative, boring and continuously want you to spend...the Chinese girls on the other hand know it all in their own gracious and 'non-kampung' style unlike the indo's in addition Jakarta wins my Oscar for the party city of south east Asia in all terms of the word.. It's simply wild...visit Jkt. and OT will seem an overpriced joke! and the chicks are way more gorgeous...as usual be smart and don't go around like the usual Jim Bob showing he has tons of money to spend.

Extra info: Taxis from the airport today are getting more and more crooked with fares most of them don't use the meter and shoot outrageous prices.. lets face it. Indonesians are lazy crooks...so I suggest you go to Blue Bird Taxi service located everywhere in the terminal and pay 130,000 (SGD24) rupiah and you get driven to anywhere in Jakarta in a nice car or van of your choice.. never pay a normal taxi driver more that 100'000 for a ride to Jakarta...its always better within Jakarta to agree on prices before departing

Jakarta - Shangri LA (BATS) and CJ's « on: August 25, 2007, 08:59:51 PM I spent a fair amount time in Indonesia over 2005/2006 running a project for company in Jakarta.
Must admit was very very intimidated when I first got there Jakarta can be a very scary place when you are down there by yourself. I was staying at the Shangri La along Jalan Sudirman which is pretty close to all the major business areas.
My first night in Jakarta and the Shangri La I went downstairs to the basement of the Shang to a bar called BATS. Got there about 9pm and was thinking that I would be lucky to make it to 10pm due to the lack of talent at the bar. Just as 10pm creeped up on me I noticed a group of girls coming down the stairs that lets just say were hotter than hot... by 11pm the bar was pumping and so full of talent that I had thought I had found nirvana..
Must admit that I think over the next 6 or 7 months I managed to pop into BATS for a drink on a nightly basis. Just for you experienced travelers would suggest this bar ranks above places like The Beach Club in KL and Ipanema in Singapore. Strongly recommend if your this way inclined popping over to Jakarta for a weekend of fun. The Shang is probably the most expensive part of the trip at US 115 a night (and I am on a company rate so not sure of standard prices).
Another top place to poke your head into is CJ's at the Mulleah Hotel. Very easy to get to every cab driver will know it and the talent is nearly as good as BATS. A bit of a younger crowd girl wise and better music than BATS Rnb. BATS has the better girls though and more of them.
Batam - Field Report Apr 2006
Okay, brief field report from weekend in Batam.
After paying my $30 for return ferry trip and waiting an hour for next ferry, arrived in Batam. Too early from what I gather too. First stop, Lucy’s Oarhouse. Friendly staff (Yumi and Tutti) and Even and Jensen were available for advice and recommendations. They are co-owners I think. Evan told me for cheap accommodation try this place across the road, got a front facing room so I could get a window, Rp 120,000 a night. Largish room, nothing special, TV, bath, sink, double bed. Upstairs from Lucy’s is PP Banana, basically a titty bar with poles, couches, bar, drinks and or course, hot ladies. Can take LT (Rp 300,000) or ST (Rp 200,000) on the premises itself. Jensen can help you out. In fact, recommend getting Jensen to bring you up there to introduce you to the girls.
I realized I arrived in Batam too early. Searching for Jungle Bar and Ice Pub and couldn’t find, until I realized their shutters were down and literally weren’t open, so wandered into the Red Cock which has good food too. Was too early for any girls and I’m told even discos don’t open until 10pm. Went out again a bit later, Jungle Bar had potential, but alas, never realized, went back three times over the night, each time more dead. Ice Pub was good, fun staff, one staff tried to hustle money on games of pool. She wanted best of three, if she lost, she’s come to my room all night at not charge. Place is almost pitch black, but massive. Hard to pick attractive women, let alone pick male from female, that’s how dark it is. After talking to a few girls, met one I thought I liked. She was cute, smiled a lot, big flirt and very attractive face (I’d moved nearer to toilets where there was more lighting). I thought I might be able to find better, but too much of a hassle and about 12:30pm by this stage. Took her back to hotel at Nagoya and when I got her inside and she took off her top, I couldn’t believe I missed it, she seriously has 38D-40D size tits. Jungle Bar – like I said, potential not realized, staff great though
Ice Pub – staff good fun, bit cramped inside, but pool table

Lucy’s Oarhouse – Seems like a rester/meeting place, achieves that well though
PP Banana – go there via Lucy’s, sexy girls, no negotiating though, set price
Planet – Can’t be too harsh, perhaps need to visit at another time
Pacific – crowded, loud, dark but plenty of ladies, worth it if take time to find right one.
As said before, S$200 should cover you, depends on how much you drink/eat and what hotel you stay at. S$30 for ferry is standard, as is US$10 for visa, everything else you can determine depending on budget. I think if you get to Batam in afternoon, take a nap and recharge for evening, don’t start to early or you’ll burn out before action really starts.
I am by no means an expert on Batam, these are just my observations, right or wrong.
